Physical and Occupational Therapy

Physical and occupational therapy may be provided under the Medicare Hospice Benefit when services are reasonable, necessary, and related to the patient’s terminal illness or related conditions. These therapies are not routine for every hospice patient and are considered according to individual clinical circumstances and the hospice plan of care.

Therapy may address physical functioning and other functional needs as appropriate to the patient’s condition. When included in the plan of care, services are coordinated with the hospice team and the professionals involved in the patient’s care.

Bonum Hospice Services considers therapy services in relation to each patient’s clinical circumstances. When physical or occupational therapy is appropriate under the Medicare Hospice Benefit, services are coordinated with the broader hospice plan of care and the professionals involved in the patient’s care.

Physical and occupational therapy are not automatically included for every hospice patient. Eligibility and appropriateness depend on the patient’s individual circumstances, clinical needs, and relationship of the therapy to the terminal illness or related conditions.
